NU TONE: FUTURE HISTORY ALBUM
Nu Tone releases his fourth album on Hospital records and gives us a collection of lushly textured Drum n Bass rollers, utilizing many classic drum breaks which give it an old-school, yet contemporary feel. On the Hospital records website , they say that it intentionally gives "knowing nods to classic tracks and the sound of hallmark events -
from ‘Swerve’ at the Velvet Rooms to ‘Logical Progression’ and
‘Hospitality at Heaven’". Nu Tone has certainly achieved this, as any raver who attended those events can attest to.
Personal favourite is 'Tides' featuring Lea Lea, starting off with a piano melody that compliments her soulful vocal effortlessly. 'Back 2 U' places the listener firmly back in the old-school rave scene, with its distinctive happy piano riff and soul vocal. 'Deep inside' brings the vibe up to the present, with its faster drum beat, which also seems reminiscent of some Marcus Intalex tracks, although its bassline firmly stamps it with originality. 'Roundabout' is a futuristic dark bassline driven roller, and this is another personal favourite on the album.
The track 'Metaphor 6000' featuring rapper Kool Keith has some very deep synth sounds with a melody similar to Xzibit's track 'Bird's Eye View' which provides a perfect, ominous bed for Keith's mysterious tech-speak vocal.
On the whole this is a very musical drum n bass album, reminiscent of the Metalheadz era of the late 90s while bringing that vibe thru to the present and then to the future on the later tracks, and will provide enjoyment for the older heads and younger generation of dnb heads alike. Go get it now!

Also do not miss out on the podcast event held on the sunday at the Bulldog cafe! Last year it was one of the best experiences of the weekend:
